How to use the Kent County Recreation Center

 

DROP-IN PROGRAMS

 

A valid "Drop-In Punch Card" is required to participate in any Drop-In program at the Kent County Recreation Center. Punch Cards can be purchased at the Rec Center office Monday-Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM using CASH, or CREDIT CARD. Cards may also be purchased after 5 PM weekdays, and on weekends, with the following restrictions: Limit of 2 per purchasers, CASH ONLY transaction (no bills greater than $20 will be accepted). Cards are $20 each and are good for 10 individual sessions of any drop-in program. A registration form must be filled out with EACH purchase.

 

PRE-REGISTERED PROGRAMS

 

Community recreation programming is available for pre-registration on a daily basis. These programs are advertised in the quarterly brochure sent out by Kent County Levy Court. Pre-registration can be made in the office Monday-Friday 8 AM to 5 PM using cash, check, or credit card. Kent County also offers online registration through CivicRec and our online catalog. You must create an account before registering for your chosen activity. The online system only takes credit cards (Visa, Discover, and MasterCard).

 

New Security Measures for the Kent County Recreation Center

 

New security measures will be implemented at the Kent County Recreation Center on Monday, November 19, 2018. All evening and weekend activity participants and spectators will be subject to advanced security screening when entering the facility. An armed security guard will screen incoming guests with a walk through metal detector/wand and x-ray machine for bags and backpacks. Kent County asks that patrons leave any contraband at home before coming to the Recreation Center. (posted 11/15/18)

Park & Facility Rentals...

 

Exclusive use of outdoor athletic fields and indoor courts at the new Recreation Center is offered at Kent County Parks and Recreation. Exclusive use affords teams, groups, or individuals, the ability to definitively schedule an event, game, or tournament.. A monetary fee and security deposit must be submitted with an application for field rental for it to be processed.

Procedures for Applying for Rentals and Concessions Permit...

 

  • Fill out application for rental (link on the left)
  • Submit with payment (rental fee + security deposit) to P&R Office, preferably by separate checks.
  • Requested date(s) must be inside three (3) months out and no sooner than 15 days before to be processed.
  • If concessions are requested, applicant must submit Vending/Concession Permit Application with Rental Application, there is no added fee for this application.
  • Parks and Recreation Director will authorize permits (Director of Community Service if absent or unable) and notify applicant of acceptance or rejection.
  • Please bring a hard copy of your permit to your scheduled event(s), even if it is multiple days.

 

RC Airplanes May Be Authorized in County Parks...

 

On October 15th, 2019, Kent County Levy Court authorized the Department of Community Services, Parks and Recreation Division to approve and issue Permits for the operation of Remote Controlled Airplanes in County Parks, expressly limited to electric motored Remote Controlled Model Airplanes, and restricted to use and flying only at the south field at Kesselring County Park, southeast field at Big Oak County Park, and the north field at Browns Branch County Park. Use of authorized Remote Controlled Airplanes shall comply at all times with the Special Regulations for Operation of Remote Controlled Airplanes promulgated by the Department of Community Services.

POLICIES...

 

REFUND POLICY


Registration fees for recreation programs/activities must be paid in advance and shall be refunded in full to the payer of record if the County cancels the program/activity. If a participant cancels his/her participation in a program at least five (5) days prior to the first scheduled day, a full refund shall be paid less a  5 processing fee pursuant to County ordinance. Refunds will not be given for any  other reason.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION

 

  • Classes, activities, and trips are subject to cancellation for any reasonable cause.
  • Returned check fee – All returned checks will have a $30 service charge.
  • Classes held at public schools will not meet when schools are closed for holidays, inclement weather or other emergencies. For cancellation information, please look at our website (www. co.kent.de.us) and facebook.com/KentCountyParksandRec.
  • Please make sure that the instructor is present before dropping your child off at a program.
  • Arrive to pick up your child at least five minutes before the program’s scheduled closing. Failure to pick up your child on time may result in expulsion from the program.
  • A child may be expelled from a program with no refund after notifying parent of disciplinary problems.
  • The Department may photograph programs and participants for publicity purposes, such as the brochure, facebook, twitter, etc.
  • The Department has the right to adjust any of the program details in the brochure including fees, locations, instructors, times, days and starting dates.
  • If you have a special skill or hobby and are interested in becoming an instructor, please contact the Recreation Office at 744-2495.

 

REGISTRATION PROCEDURES

 

Registration will be accepted through the mail, in person, by fax or online on a first-come, first-served basis. NO PHONE IN REGISTRATION WILL BE ACCEPTED. Cost of activity must be paid in full when registering except when stated differently. Please follow registration procedures listed below.

 

ONLINE REGISTRATION

 

Online Registration can be accessed through www.co.kent.de.us/parks-recreation.aspx using MasterCard, Visa and Discover Card. Payments are processed through Vantiv; however, refunds must be processed through Kent County Parks and Recreation; allow up to 2 weeks for processing. All other refund policies apply.

 

MAIL OR WALK-IN REGISTRATION

 

Payments may be made with cash, check, money order, Visa, MasterCard or Discover Card. Make checks payable to Kent County Parks & Recreation and mail or hand deliver to: 1683 New Burton Road, Dover, DE 19904. For your protection, please do not mail cash.

 

  • It is recommended that registration be received ONE WEEK BEFORE THE FIRST SCHEDULED CLASS OR BUS TRIPunless otherwise noted.
  • Requested receipts can be sent by email, office pickup or mailed (participant must provide us with a self-addressed stamped envelope). Participants can make the request on the registration form.
  • Activity fees may be combined in one payment. Make sure form and payment are complete and correct. Please include current contact information so we can reach you if there are program changes.
  • Completed form must accompany payment. Registration waiver and release of liability and indemnity agreement must be signed.
  • Registration or entry may be denied into a program when it is deemed necessary to assure public safety.

 

PROGRAM MODIFICATION

 

The Kent County Parks and Recreation Division invites people with and without disabilities to enjoy our programs, parks, and facilities. It is the policy of the Kent County Levy Court that all programs be accessible to all Qualified Handicapped Individuals as provided in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. If you or the person(s) you are registering need modification for your program of interest, please call Mike Rigby at 302-744-2495 or email at Michael.rigby@co.kent.de.us before registering to discuss the matter.
