Kent County Levy Court (KCLC) Receives Pro Patria Award from Department of Defense (DOD)
Dover, DE – For the second year in a row, Kent County Levy Court has received the distinctive Pro Patria Award from the United States Department of Defense.
The Pro Patria Award is the highest state-level award given to a civilian employer by DOD. KCLC received this award from the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Program (ESGR).
The ESGR Award is presented annually to one small, one large, and one public sector employer in their state or territory, which has demonstrated the greatest continued support for Guard and Reserve employees.
ESGR is an agency within the office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs. Established in 1972 by Presidential Executive Order, the 54 member State Committee seeks to promote cooperation and understanding between Guard and Reserve members and their civilian employers.
John Witzke, a Paramedic III within the Kent County Department of Public Safety, Emergency and Medical Service Division and a C-5M Galaxy Flight Engineer Resource Manager, E-8, Senior Master Sergeant with the 70th Airlift Squadron assigned to the 512th Airlift Wing says, “Knowing KCLC supports my Air Force Reserve work efforts allows me to focus and perform my jobs efficiently. I can do this job (Paramedic III), because KCLC allows me to perform my military service, and not be concerned about weather or not I’m sacrificing my civilian job. And because this understanding and working partnership exist, I wholeheartedly respect and appreciate the support extended to me by the County.”
Other Kent County employees who are working and serving in a branch of the U.S. Military Reserve or Guard include: Kevin Imholf, Paramedic II for KCLC and a Flight Medic in the Delaware National Guard, Marti Stansbury, Zoning Inspector II for KCLC and a Master Sergeant, C-17 Loadmaster with the 512th Airlift Wing, and Kelsey Gallo, Dispatcher I for KCLC and Private First Class/E-2 with the United States Marine Corps.
This year’s 2013 ESGR award honors Kent County Levy Court as a Freedom Award semifinalist, and distinguishes the County as an Exemplary Supporter of Guard and Reserve Employees.
