Kent County contracts out residential garbage and recyclable collection services to a private company.  Kent County does not own any equipment necessary to collect and dispose of garbage, recyclables or yard waste.  The private company follows a different holiday schedule than the County government

Garbage, recyclables, and yard waste are collected the day after the normal collection day (including Saturday) when an observed holiday falls on or precedes the normal collection day.

STATE LAW BANS YARD WASTE DISPOSAL AT THE LANDFILL

Please do NOT put yard waste

in garbage or recycle containers

Garbage cannot be collected if

yard waste is present

Banned organic Yard Waste includes leaves, weeds, branches, grass clippings, twigs, potted plants, flowers, bushes, vines, etc.   Put these items in the green yard waste container or mulch them on your own property.  Stumps and logs cannot be collected and must be disposed of by the property owner.

Artificial flowers, artificial garland, yard ornaments, plastic bags, rope, etc. are considered garbage, since they cannot be mulched.  These non-organic items should be put in the black garbage can.

When in Doubt - Roll it Out!

Kent County cannot be responsible for missed garbage pickups
